On September 24, 2005, approximately 3,000 runners traversed the streets of Kansas City, completing race distances from five kilometers
to 26.2 miles. This was a noteworthy accomplishment as it not only marked the official rebirth of the Kansas City Marathon, it also
signaled Waddell & Reed’s entry as title sponsor for the celebrated event that showcases Kansas City’s historic neighborhoods, cultural
centers and iconic business districts. Since 2005, the Waddell & Reed Kansas City Marathon with Ivy Funds — which also includes a half
marathon, five-kilometer run, marathon team relay, and kids’ marathon — has evolved into a major annual event drawing more than 12,000
runners annually and thousands more spectators and volunteers.
